HTC debuts new HTC One M8

After months of rumors and leaks that revealed almost everything there is to know about HTC’s new flagship smartphone, the HTC One (M8) is finally official. The vendor unveiled its sleek new hero phone during a press conference on Tuesday, taking the wraps off of what may very well be the most impressive smartphone that has ever been made.

The HTC One M8's screen has jumped to 5-inches (up from 4.7-inches), but it retains its 1920 x 1080 resolution, dropping the PPI down to 440 (down from 469). We also see the expected virtual navigation keys, replacing the capacitive keys that previous resided down by the logo.

The biggest new feature is what HTC has branded as "Motion Launch," the ability to lock and unlock the device with a double tap on the screen or activate it with a single swipe. The phone will also auto-answer calls whenever you lift it up to your ear.

Internally, the phone is powered by a Snapdragon 801 2.3GHz quad-core processor. It comes with 32GB of internal memory along with support for up to a 128GB microSD card. The phone also comes with 50GB of Google Drive storage for two years.

To differentiate itself from much of the competition, the new HTC One has two rear-facing cameras, its "Duo Cameras." The company has chosen not to give the phone's camera a resolution bump, instead sticking with 4 "UltraPixels." The strong low light performance returns, as do the speedy camera shots, but don't go in expecting to use this camera in situations where 2688 x 1520 isn't enough. The front-facing camera, on the other hand, has risen to 5MP.

The two cameras allow users to refocus shots after they've been taken, and with the two cameras working together, users are able to highlight a target while blurring the background. The phone can also use depth information to apply other background effects. HTC is opening its camera API to third-party developers.

The HTC One M8 has a larger battery (2600mAh versus 2300mAh) that the company claims will provide 40% longer battery life. This can be extended further when combined with the phone's new power save mode.

One area where the HTC One trumps the competition is sound, and the new model looks posed to do the same. The device retains its two front-facing BoomSound speakers. HTC reports that the M8 should be 25% louder.
The handset's distinctive metal unibody returns, though HTC has added some variation. In addition to the standard silver model and alternative colors, a darker model offers a brushed metal look that changes how the texture looks.

Angry Birds Epic : a Turn-Based RPG ?

After a kart racing spin off and another mystery title named Angry Birds Stella, Rovio has added yet another game and genre to its Angry Birds lineup with Angry Birds Epic.

Although still largely under wraps, early information for the game reveals it will take the form of an adventure RPG.

According to Kotaku, the game will feature a turn-based battle system and 'extensive' crafting, typical to the RPG genre. A lone screenshot appears to show a team of birds facing off against a pack of pigs in a battle, with bars indicating their health.
A teaser image on Angry Birds Nest describes players' ability to "craft amazing battle-winning weapons like a wooden sword, frying pan or stick thingy with a sponge on top".
Players will also apparently level up their characters, armor and weapons as they win battles, and use potions to enhance their abilities.
There will be a "fantasy Piggy Island" to explore, and player classes including Mage and Knight birds. The game will be soft-launched in Canada and New Zealand this month for testing, ahead of a global launch later in 2014.

 - This comes after the firm teased the new game with a short teaser trailer :

HTC One 2014 detailed and specs

The HTC All New One (2014), codenamed M8, is getting to be the worst kept secret in recent times. It's been leak after leak, the last one describing why there are two cameras on the back. There was also a lengthy video of it.
Now we've got our hands on the complete and detailed specs of the smartphone. We also acquired what appears to be a sales guide depicting the key features of the HTC One (2014) and how the company's representative plan on marketing them.

The HTC One (2014) will measure 146.36 x 70.6 x 9.35, making it a little thicker than its main rivals. Weight is set at 160g.
The screen will indeed be a 5" 1080p unit. The processor is quoted to be a quad-core 2.3 GHz Snapdragon 801, while the battery capacity will be 2,600 mAh. The SIM is said to be of the nano variety (like on the iPhone 5, 5c and 5s, Moto X, etc.) and there will be a microSD card slot to compliment the preloaded 16 GB of storage (10GB of which will b e user available).
There's no word on the camera resolution yet but the rest of the specs appear the same as last year's model - 1/3.0" size, f/2.0 aperture, 2µm pixel size, etc. suggesting the resolution could again be 4 MP. According to the guide the video capture is still 1080p and not 4K. There will also be a rapid improvement in the front-facing camera which will now pack 5MP sensor.

LG G3 specs leaked details

It looks like LG’s next-generation flagship phone for 2014 might have something a bit more impressive to tout than buttons on the back of the device. According to a report from ZDNet Korea, LG may have leaked the specs of its next generation flagship phone, the LG G3.
The LG G3 probably won’t be released for at least 8 months, but it’s never to early to speculate what the hardware will be. According to “unidentified industry sources,” the LG G3 will sport a 16MP rear camera and a Quad HD screen that boasts of a resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 IPS LCD display.
The G3 apparently runs on LG's octa-core processor that is christened LG Odin. If LG's agreement with ARM to license its Cortex-A50 series processors is anything to go by, the G3 may well boast of some new-age functionality, complete with a 64-bit architecture in place.
We presume the octa-core will be LG’s own processor codenamed “Odin.” The big question is if this processor will be widely available for all regions or be similar to Samsung’s situation, in which most of the world doesn’t get the Exynos octa-core?

Dead Trigger 2 Holiday Update

Madfinger's Dead Trigger 2 has remained near the top of the game charts on Android since its release a couple of months ago, and the developers continue to update it regularly. The last update focused on balance issues, but this one adds the most content yet, most notably the new China environment. This addition includes new Story and Warfare missions and extra challenges, plus Google Play Games achievements.

You also get several handfuls of melee weapons for when you inevitably run out of ammo and/or chickens. The Big Hammer and Butterfly Swords seem like they'll be the most fun, but Danny Trejo fans can also cause a little carnage with the Machete. Madfinger says that there are now 30 different weapons and 150 gameplays in Dead Trigger 2. If you play throughout the holidays you might notice some limited-edition Christmas presents, though the developers are keeping mum on their contents for the moment.

The original Dead Trigger is also receiving an update, primarily to add support for more high-resolution phones and tablets. It also updates the game to remove a bug in the equip menu and refreshes support for Facebook, Twitter, TapJoy and Chartboost. Rest easy, holiday travelers - you'll have plenty of reason to ignore your friends and family this yuletide.

Here’s What’s New in Android 4.4 Kit Kat

This morning there was a pretty large leak of Android 4.4 that surfaced out there. We can see a ton of differences already and I’m sure there are plenty more. But let’s start at the lockscreen which is picture above. As you can see the wallpaper is different, but it normally is on new releases. The icons in the status bar are also white now, and it appears the background is transparent like the status bar in Touchwiz and LG’s Optimus UI. There’s also a camera in the bottom right-hand corner. We’re guessing that’ll make it easier to launch the camera instead of swiping over from right to left.

In the next screenshot down below we’re seeing a new homescreen setup. This is actually showing us a transparent notification/status bar and a transparent on-screen navigation bar at the bottom. Which I am loving. That was in the LG G2 (in some apps) and I loved that. You can also see the app drawer icon and phone icon are a bit different. Also the page indicator is back to the pre-ICS era. Which isn’t a huge deal. Especially if they auto-hide. There’s also said to be a new way to access Google Now. If you swipe over from right to left on the last page, you should be able to get to Google Now. There is also still the same swipe up from the home button to get there as well.

There’s also a revamped app drawer, which I’m not sure I like. The icons are bigger, and some of them have new icons. Instead of a 5×5 app drawer in the Nexus 4, we’ve got a 4×5 app drawer in what we believe is the Nexus 5. Additionally the “Apps” and “Widgets” heading along with the Play Store shortcut are gone. The Google and Google Settings app icons are a bit different. They are now round. Which is…new.

The screenshot below is showing the settings menu and the only real difference we can see is the new ‘Tap & Pay” option which we covered earlier. There also appears to be a different color for the Settings bar at the top. That could just be the way the picture was taken though.

The final group of screenshots below show the new enhanced location settings menu. From there we can see Google is giving you the power to adjust location modes to either enhance accuracy or work less regularly to save battery life. Both sound like good things, in my opinion. There’s also a section for recent location requests which give you quick access to location history.
I’m sure that’s not all that’s new in Android 4.4. But that is what we see so far. Exciting times for stock Android fans!

Did Google Just Show The New Nexus Phone In The Kitkat Statue Video ?

Did Google Just Show The New Nexus Phone In The Kitkat Statue Video ?

Google posted the video of its new KitKat statue being planted on the lawn earlier today, but that's nothing unusual. What was incredibly unusual was the device one of the assembled Googlers was using to snap pictures of the event. At the 0:38 mark, you can see this fellow holding up a phone sideways, and it has a sideways Nexus logo. It looks exactly like the Nexus 7's new logo, but it's way too small to be the N7. Is this the new Nexus phone?

Left: Mystery Nexus, Right: Nexus 4
The device has a smooth back and a large offset camera lens. It has an almost Sony vibe, but the branding at the bottom of the device is too blurry to make out for sure. It looks a bit like the LG Nexus 4. The logo lettering isn't discernable, but it has the proportions of the LG "smile." See the comparison above with an N4 conveniently right next to it. The consensus around here is that it's another LG Nexus.
