Tizen is an open source operating system based on Linux and designed for
smartphones, tablets, Tvs and laptops. Its backers include the likes of
Intel and Samsung and various projects based on this platform have
started lately.
The first Tizen smartphones should appear this year and we’re also going to see some laptops as well. Tizen can be taken for a drive test right now, since an early port of the Tizen 2.0 OS has been made available for the Nexus 7 tablet. It was actually available for a few months, but we’ve now got a new port released for the Nexus 7 3G and here you can find a guide for building your own port. Of course it takes some skills to do that…
In the meantime, if you want to see Tizen in action for yourselves, we’ve got a video below, posted on the web by developer Armaud Dupuis. He has shown the world what Tizen looks like when it runs on the Nexus 7 3G tablet. The dev relied on the MultiROM tool, that allows you to choose between Android and Tizen at boot, instead of overwriting OSes.
