The A3 isn’t going to blow anyone away, but the real magic is said to be in its budget friendly price.
IFA 2013 is still a few days away, but that’s not stopping Acer from jumping the gun a bit with several new product announcements.
In the smartphone arena, Acer has unveiled the 6-inch Acer Liquid S2, which appears to be the world’s first 4K Ultra HD recording smartphone. On the Android PC front, we have the Acer DA241HL All-in-One PC. Finally, when it comes to tablet announcements, we now have the new Acer Iconia A3.
The Acer Iconia A3 features :
- a 1280 x 800 resolution display
- powered by a quad-core 1.2GHz A7 processor
- likely a MediaTek chip of some kind.
- a 5MP camera
- microHDMI
- microSD
- Android 4.2.
The A3 isn’t going to blow anyone away, but the real magic is said to be in its budget friendly price. At €250 ($330) for the Wi-Fi model and €300 ($395) for a 3G variant, the Acer Iconia A3 comes in at about the same price as devices like the iPad Mini, yet it is a 10-inch offering. The price might not sound that attractive next to the many lower priced Android-powered 7 and 8-inchers, but it is still very affordable.
When’s it coming? The Wi-Fi model will arrive in October to select markets in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The 3G model will arrive about a month later. No word on if or when the device might come to North America.
For those looking for something even cheaper, it’s worth mentioning that Acer has also announced several updated colors for the budget 7-inch Acer B1 and 7.9-inch Acer A1. The former now comes in Ocean Blue and Vermilion Red, with the later available in white, Smokey Grey and Ivory Gold.
